Who's afraid of the Greek Communists?

Fabio Amato

not say the peoples of Europe that the Communists and the Left won the elections. Or rather, to the Italian one. Media censorship suffered by the Communists in our country through the borders and also applies to what the other countries of Europe. In fact, the Italian press, from its major newspapers, Corriere Republic and in the lead, not to mention the evening news, has not had a hint in the first round of local elections that were held in Greece this weekend. We do not think a case. There are elections where the KKE, the Greek Communist Party, had a great result, reaching its record high since the end of the junta now, increased from 7.5% to harvest 11% of the last general election Nov. 7. In fact the only party that is greek to grow, and does so after having been among the protagonists of the uprising in the austerity plan. This success is acknowledged by all Greek political commentators.
These elections were an important political test, not only for the Hellenic country, but throughout Europe as the first electoral test after the approval by the greek government measures in the plan and the European Union IMF austerity , that memorandum that has produced an unprecedented attack on the workers and the resulting popular reaction to the organization massive social protests and general strikes repeatedly. The KKE has undoubtedly been awarded for a position of intransigent opposition to the social and economic policy of the government. It 'been clearly perceived, by those who went to vote, as the most active force in the fight against the austerity plan and counter social Papandreou. A position that stands out for an attack on both major parties, denouncing the co-responsibility in the conduct of the country over the past twenty years. So much so that in statements to the press by the secretary Aleka Papariga, for the second round of the KKE calls not to vote for any candidate of the two major parties. Insisting on political given to the general election campaign by the KKE, the demand for a bipartisan vote against PASOK-ND and their economic and social policy, the Communist secretary reiterated the need to continue to mobilize and stigmatized the reaction of Pasok, his intention to continue to move forward regardless of election results which according to the KKE is a clear rejection of the government.
But the other big political fact of this election is undoubtedly the 'abstention, which reached unprecedented levels. The disappointment and anger at the unpopular measures of the Socialist-led government has pushed a lot of PASOK to boycott the polls. But is this exodus from the polls to keep reality Life in the Socialist government. Those who wanted to punish it the government, has actually strengthened. Everyone, in fact, after the vote, as often happens, were satisfied. The PASOK and Papandreou, who depend on keeping and the fact that it maintained its position as the largest political motivation to continue in government and justify its actions, thus removing the specter of early elections. New Democracy, the conservative party, but is happy to have reduced the gap to the Socialists. In reality the two-party system to wobble. Alexis Tsipras insists on this, President of Synaspismos, the other party of the radical left, in commenting on the results of his party, which confirms data of past elections and in some cases he had chosen to support socialist candidates and rebels opposed to the plan of the IMF, as in the case of Attica, the region of Athens, where he won the most significant result. A first step, the lists with members of Pasok socialists opposed to the policy, to try to change the political system, greek, according Tsipras. The election results are the signal and the avoidance of the deep crisis of liberal consensus politics. A crisis that leads to a questioning of traditional greek bipartisanship. The victory of the Communists is the signal that it is from social struggle and a battle against the uncompromising austerity plans and anti-people policies that can strengthen and grow the alternative left, communist and class.
