These elections were an important political test, not only for the Hellenic country, but throughout Europe as the first electoral test after the approval by the greek government measures in the plan and the European Union IMF austerity , that memorandum that has produced an unprecedented attack on the workers and the resulting popular reaction to the organization massive social protests and general strikes repeatedly. The KKE has undoubtedly been awarded for a position of intransigent opposition to the social and economic policy of the government.
